"Deconstructed/Reconstructed"
The Museum of Geological Formations of Meteora
2023
The film Deconstructed/Reconstructed which is a response to Creative Meteorisms. Deconstructed/Reconstructed, is focused through the lens of deconstructed materials as a meditation on Creative Meteorisms, exploring the concepts of rising and falling, temporality, permanence and abstraction. The active material in the film, is constructed through the act of grinding to dust original Wedgwood jasper blue objects. The dust of these now deconstructed valuable objects becomes the material for a contemplation of the rising and falling of this incredibly precious dust. The exploration of the role of Wedgwood Jasper Blue as a cultural material with its iconic pale blue color and classical motifs, has been prized for its beauty and craftsmanship since its introduction in the 18th century. The film challenges traditional understandings of material value, particularly focusing on Wedgwood Jasper Blue, and its role in shaping cultural and artistic identities. Wedgwood Jasper Blue occupies a unique place in the history of material culture. Since its introduction by Josiah Wedgwood in the 18th century, it has been celebrated for its beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural significance.
It is the sublime experience through its manipulation of time and materiality that amplifies the poetry of time and gravity in the use of slow-motion filming, within the film that stretches and distorts time. This demands us enter a contemplative state. As the dust particles hover in mid-air, time appears to stand still, creating a moment of suspended animation. The Wedgwood blue dust connects us to overlapping realities of past and future through movements and stillness, cast in the current of time.
